Replacing
Server or Standalone System Hardware and Reinstalling Active Accounting
Essentially all you need is a file named ActiveAccounting-Base.exe to perform the first
step in the installation. If you do not have this file contact UDS Support at Support@udsgis.com.
We will then email you a “link” that will take you directly to a login page on
our web site. You will enter your username and password there and be
given access to the file for downloading. Once you have ‘Saved’ it to
disk, you may browse to it and double click on the file name to begin the
installation process. Allow the installation to create a folder with the same
name as that used to install AA on the original System. Select Typical install type when asked. Answer
the remaining prompts as they are presented and allow the installation to
finish.
The second step is to 'copy' the entire contents your
original Active Accounting folder from the old Server or Stand Alone system and
'paste' it into the folder of the same name created on the new server. This is
all there is to it.
Note1: Take the necessary steps to protect the
most import files involved in this transfer- .mdb files, .ula files, and any
.tag files you may have created and make certain they go with the rest of the
files onto the new System hardware.
Note2: Make sure the hard drive on the new
Server machine is set to be 'Shared' by all AA users. Permissions must be
non-restrictive. Users must have the ability to Read, Write, and Modify
in the ActiveAccounting folder on the Server. "Read Only"
status is not good.
Note3: If the former system will remain in use
on the network, it would be appropriate to uninstall Active Accounting from
that workstation by starting the ActiveAccounting-Base.exe
file installation and then answering Yes to
uninstall AA. Then reinstalling using the Compact installation type most common to workstation
installations of AA.
Note 4: In a few cases when double clicking on
the AA Icon in order to start AA the workstation attempts to find the Ula and
later the Mdb files using the older paths, even though the icon is targeted
correctly. If any errors pop-up get past them and select from the AA main menu,
File/Open Layout (*.ula) and browse using the current path to your ULA file and
then to the same to select your database (.Mdb) file.
It may also be worth checking the Active Accounting
workstation's MS Windows Registry to be sure that MultipleMDBs and MultipleULAs
"Dwords" are set to "Y". The directions presented
below should help with that:
1. On the Active Accounting Workstation systems: Click on ‘Start’ and then ‘Run’. In the “Run window” that appears, key-in the word Regedit then click the “OK” button.
Now select the following key using the “+” sign to the left of each level in turn to open the selections below that level, one level at a time:
On the file server machine where the database resides: Click on ‘Start’ and then ‘Run’. In the “Run window” that appears, key-in the word Regedit then click the “OK” button.
Now select the following key using the “+” sign to the left of each level in turn to open the selections below that level, one level at a time. Scroll up or down as need be to find these folders:
+HKEY_CURRENT_USER
+Software
+UDS Software
Instance
2. Once reaching the Parameters level named "Instance" and you have left clicked on it to ‘opened’ that folder: right mouse click, then left mouse click on “New”, then select DWORD. It will be ready for you to name this DWORD. Key-in the single word: MultipleMDBs and set to Y. Next, Key-in the single word: MultipleULAs and set to Y.
However, it is more likely the words: MultipleMDBs and MultipleULAs may already exist and will appear as soon as you left click on the "Instance" folder to open it, if so, you need only want to make sure the values are set to "Y" for both words.
3. Re-boot the Workstation system.
