Importing Tagmaker+Print & Thermal Tag Designs to
Tagmaker+Deluxe
(To enable use with Orders Tag Queue Create program)
The Orders Tag Queue Create function will only allow tags to be printed through Tagmaker+Deluxe. Fortunately your preexisting tags may be imported to Tagmaker+Deluxe and do not have to be recreated entirely from scratch from within Tagmaker+Deluxe. As will be explained further on within this article, you should check your tag design closely after importing but in most cases there is little adjustment that will have to be done. After importing a tag design to Tagmaker+Deluxe, you will notice that the file format has been changed from a “.tag” to “.xml” file format.
1. Start Tagmaker+Deluxe.
2. Normally the window titled ‘Open’ will immediately appear. This is the user’s opportunity to browse to the folder containing the tag design to be imported if that folder is not by chance already showing in the Open window.
3. It is also important to mention that the “Files of Type” on this window defaults to .xml tag designs because in everyday use the user will only want to see a list of already converted tag designs. The user must change the “Files of Type” to Tagmaker+(*.tag). This way your previously created tag designs of the .tag file type will be displayed in this window for possible selection. Otherwise they will not be shown.
4. Select the tag design to be imported by first highlighting it and then selecting the Open button or simply double click on the Open button.
5. Your tag design will now appear in the Tag Design window within the Tagmaker+Deluxe program exactly like it would have in the older Tagmaker+ programs. Now is your opportunity to make any changes to the design you might want using Tagmaker+Deluxe if you would like to. Read the Tagmaker+Deluxe instructions on how to make changes.
6. If not making changes now simply select the “Save As” button on the Tagmaker+Deluxe main menu to insure that your imported tag design is saved to the desired folder and file name. By default it will be saved as a .xml file type.
7. That’s all there is to Importing an older tag design to Tagmaker+Deluxe. If you would like, close Tagmaker+Deluxe and restart it to see if the Open window displays your recently converted tag design file.
8. You should now test your tag by either checking the properties of each field or by actually printing just one or two tags.
Trouble-Shooting Example
I imported a Customer-Item based tag design that I had originally designed in Tagmaker+Print. It is based on Orders and is intended to show the Customer’s Item Number, Customer’s description 1, and the end users Price. When I printed a few tags I discovered that instead of the Customer’s description printing on the tags as expected, “Description Line 1” printed instead.
1. So I brought the tag design up in the Tag Design window in Tagmaker+Deluxe then clicked on the Description 1 field on the tag’s design. The Text Properties box has a field named “Data Source”. The value showing was blank. That’s why the words “Description Line 1” were printing on each of my tags. The field was not trying to retrieve the description from the Order Detail table.
2. All I did was select the yellow wastebasket to delete the Description Line 1 field from the tag’s design.
3. Then went to the Data Fields window and selected the ORDETAIL table.
4. Then dragged and dropped the Description Line 1 field from the fields listed below, onto the tag’s design and then ‘saved’ the design. Now “Wonderful Plant” printed on the tag that is the actual value entered into the Customer-Item record for the particular Order detail line on the Order.
